Energy Efficiency Incentives in Minnesota, 2015

Developers seeking funding from Minnesota Housing via its annual Request For Proposals (RFP, which includes the Low Income Housing Tax Credit) are now being asked to seek out energy efficiency incentives to be included as funding sources for their projects.

Starting in 2015, developers will submit an “Energy Rebate Analysis” that outlines the amount of funding available from federal, state, local, and utility energy efficiency incentives for their intended scope of work. This step will encourage developers to implement additional energy efficiency features that reduce building operating costs and leverage outside funding sources to expand the dollars going to create, preserve, and improve Minnesota’s affordable housing. Such energy efficiency improvements increase developers’ ability to maintain affordable rents and help safeguard Minnesota Housing’s investments in affordable housing.
